Metering is a way to save energy

It is amazing how the simple act of storing your meter readings can save energy. Somehow, the competitive instinct kicks in, and you try harder to get a lower meter reading than the week or day before - result is that you save energy!
It is worth doing it for Electric, Gas, and even Water if that is on a meter. If you have a PV roof, it is essential so you can calculate your payback!

There is a more detailed article about this on the WB Ecohouses blogsite. See the Metering Page. It also contains tips on how to convert your Gas to kWh.

Do you want to help the environment and save money at the same time!

WhipCar which was launched in April, enables people to rent their unused car to others in their local vicinity, and drivers in need of a car can hire from locally situated car owners. Car owners can set their own rates and decide on the times that the car is available. Since its launch WhipCar has gone on to create one of the most diverse car fleets of the UK, and it is growing by the day.

WhipCar was created by co-founders Vinay Gupta and Tom Wright, who recognised that unused cars could be made use of in a greener and more cost-effective way. Owners can earn money from renting their vehicle. It is a modern and practical facility, stemming from the natural evolution of traditional car hire companies. By renting a car from a neighbour instead of owning one, the number of cars in circulation will decrease, which means a greener future for driving.

WhipCar’s founders are dedicated to providing the safest and best quality service possible. Consequently, every stage of the renting service is vetted to ensure complete security and legitimacy for both owner and driver. All cars are subject to rigorous safety checks and all drivers are screened, and the price and timing of rentals are put in complete control of the owner

Leave them a flower words and music by: Wally Whyton

Leave Them A Flower

* (Wally Whyton)

Leave them a flower, some grass and a hedgerow
A hill and a valley, a view to the sea
These things are not yours to destroy as you want to
A gift given once for eternity

I speak on behalf of the next generation
My sons and daughters, their children to come
What will you leave them for their recreation
An oil slick, a pylon, an industrial slum

You plunder and pillage, you tear and you tunnel
Trees lying toppled, roots finger the sky
Building a land for machines and computers
In the name of progress the farms have to die

Fish in the ocean polluted and poisoned
The sand on the beaches stinking and black
And you with your tankers, your banks and investments
Say, Never worry, the birds will come back

When the last flower has dropped its last petal
When the last concrete is finally laid
The moon will shine cold on a nightmarish landscape
Your gift to your children, this world that you made
